Baghdad: The Cabinet has given the green light to an agricultural plan for the upcoming winter season (2025-2026). The plan outlines the cultivation of one million dunams using surface water, in addition to the 3.5 million dunams earmarked for cultivation with groundwater. This initiative is set forth under Cabinet Resolution No. 796 of 2025.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Cabinet’s statement emphasized the necessity of employing modern irrigation systems for wheat cultivation, regardless of whether it is grown using groundwater or surface water. Furthermore, the Ministry of Trade has been instructed not to accept any wheat that is grown outside the framework of the agricultural plan prescribed by the Ministry of Agriculture.
