Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani emphasized that some individuals are deliberately misleading and distorting electoral processes, straying from competition based on programs. During a meeting with tribal leaders from the Al-Farijat tribe, he stressed that reluctance to participate in elections is unacceptable and that results will stand irrespective of voter turnout.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Sudani highlighted the necessity for a large parliamentary bloc to back government initiatives. He detailed the government’s systematic plans for resource management and accomplishments over the past three years, including restoring hope through service provision, reconstruction, and project implementation across sectors.
Al-Sudani mentioned halting petroleum imports due to achieving self-sufficiency, which previously cost 6 trillion dinars annually. He announced plans to export petroleum products soon and to end gas flaring by 2027, saving Iraq approximately $5 billion. He outlined steps taken towards economic reform and diversifying the economy beyond oil. A significant agreement with Turkey was signed to ensure water security, emphasizing Iraq’s commitment to safeguarding its water rights.
The Prime Minister expressed pride in the tribal leaders’ role in supporting state institutions and maintaining civil peace. He acknowledged their sacrifices for Iraq’s security and stability, emphasizing the people’s power in shaping the future through electoral participation. Al-Sudani called for citizens’ trust to continue reforms, expressing optimism in their ability to make informed decisions.
