Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani emphasized the importance of active and informed participation in the elections, as it is a constitutional right for all and will determine the country’s fate for the next four years.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Prime Minister’s Media Office stated that “al-Sudani received, today, Wednesday, a number of tribal sheikhs, dignitaries, and social figures from the Abu Ghraib, Adhamiya, Salikh, and Taji districts of Baghdad, in the presence of former Prime Minister Ayad Allawi and the Prime Minister’s Advisor, Sarah Ayad Allawi.”
The Prime Minister praised “Mr. Ayad Allawi’s national role and his efforts with other political forces in building the new Iraq, affirming his pride in his relationship and political partnership with him, and their years of working together on the same path.”
Al-Sudani welcomed the delegation of tribal leaders and dignitaries from Baghdad, emphasizing that the government has made significant efforts to enhance services in all areas of the capital and has launched several infrastructure projects. He also highlighted his national project, which aims to rebuild and improve the relationship between the people and the political system, based on a vision and programs designed to address citizens’ priorities and their long-overdue entitlements resulting from the events of the past two decades.
The Prime Minister stated, “During the three years of this government’s term, we have achieved many accomplishments despite all the challenges. Our government program focused on issues of concern to citizens and finding solutions for them. With Iraq’s population exceeding 46 million, this necessitates a greater need for services. We have taken systematic and structural steps to reform the economy and reduce our reliance on oil alone, and we are committed to completing the reform and development project.”
He added: “We stopped importing oil derivatives, which cost us around 6 trillion dinars, and we are working to stop gas flaring, which costs us $4 billion annually. We have implemented genuine reforms in many areas, including the financial and banking sectors, to achieve economic development. We have also created an attractive and secure environment for investment, which has attracted more than $100 billion in Arab and foreign investments.”
He pointed out that “major international companies are operating in Iraq today, which is a testament to the soundness of the measures taken by the government. We need national political forces that safeguard the interests of Iraq and the Iraqi people, given the events and repercussions unfolding in the region. We have adopted a balanced policy to keep Iraq away from the wars and conflicts that have plagued the region, and we have succeeded in preserving its security and stability.”
