Umm qasr: The Border Ports Authority announced on Saturday the thwarting of an attempt to smuggle alcoholic beverages at Umm Qasr North Port.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Authority revealed that Umm Qasr North Port Directorate seized a 40-foot container at the search and inspection point outside the customs area. The container held various alcoholic beverages and foodstuffs of Chinese origin, which were concealed and not declared in the completed customs documents, indicating an intention for smuggling.
The statement further noted that a formal seizure report was prepared. The materials were subsequently referred to Umm Qasr North Customs Police Station, where the case will be presented before the investigating judge to ensure those responsible are held accountable.
