Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani has affirmed Iraq's commitment to maintaining the stability of the global oil market, focusing on the interests of both producers and consumers. This commitment includes ensuring the continued production of Iraqi oil at established and stable rates.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Prime Minister's Media Office issued a press release stating that al-Sudani held a meeting with Vagit Alekperov, President of the Russian oil company Lukoil. The discussions centered around finding solutions and mechanisms to enhance the stability of oil production. This meeting comes in the wake of US Treasury sanctions against Lukoil, which have affected the company's ability to implement its investment contracts.
The statement further elaborated that the discussions also touched upon the stability of the oil supply market. Both parties emphasized ensuring that Iraq's capacity to contribute to oil production remains unaffected. Lukoil is currently responsible for producing approximately 480,000 barrels per day from the West Qurna oil field, a significant contributor to Iraq's oil output.
