Beirut: Hezbollah announced on Sunday that an Israeli airstrike in Beirut's southern suburbs targeted a significant "jihadist figure," as the organization investigates the incident amidst increased security and political tension in Lebanon.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Deputy Head of Hezbollah's political council, Mahmoud Qamati, stated in a press release that the attack marked a violation of a "red line." He emphasized that Hezbollah will decide how and when to respond to the airstrike. Qamati also noted Hezbollah's commitment to coordinating with the Lebanese state and army, viewing the Israeli action as part of a broader strategy against Lebanon.

Hezbollah is working to confirm the identity of the individual targeted in the attack, with plans to make an official announcement following the completion of field investigations. The statement follows the destruction of a residential building in Haret Hreik by an Israeli airstrike, which Israel claims was aimed at Hezbollah's acting chief of staff, Abu Ali Tabatabai.

The airstrike raises the possibility of escalating conflict between Hezbollah and Israel.
