Baghdad: The Federal Integrity Commission has begun preparing a comprehensive report on the wave of air pollution and the smog that blanketed the skies of Baghdad in recent days.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Commission stated in a press release: "The Prevention Department has formed a specialized team to study the causes of the emission of harmful fumes, smoke, gases, and odors that have led to cases of suffocation and respiratory illnesses among Baghdad residents."

It explained: "The team has begun visiting several relevant entities, including the Ministry of Environment, the Baghdad Operations Command, and the Environmental Police Directorate." The Commission added that it is working diligently to complete visits to the remaining concerned parties, including the Industrial Development Directorate, the Oil Products Distribution Company, and the Solid Waste Department of the Baghdad Municipality.

It explained: "The final report will include the results of field visits and assessments, and recommendations aimed at reducing pollution sources and addressing the causes of harmful smoke and gas emissions, in order to protect public health and the environment in Baghdad Governorate."
