Erbil: The Ministry of Interior of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) disclosed information regarding the recent events in Gwer, Erbil, which involved a shooting that resulted in the death of one citizen and injuries to several others.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Ministry's statement indicated that both external and local parties were involved in attempts to incite chaos in the region. The onset of these disruptive actions involved targeting the Kormor gas field with the intention of stopping electricity generation in the area. In response to the gas field incident, the KRG began utilizing liquid fuel as an alternative to continue electricity production.
The statement further explained that a group of rioters subsequently obstructed the road used by fuel tankers and civilians in Gwer, and opened fire on passersby and travelers. This act of violence led to the death of one citizen and left several others injured.
The Ministry emphasized in its statement that it will no longer allow the exploitation of the KRG institutions' good faith. It declared an intent to put an end to such acts of sabotage and assured that the rioters will be addressed according to the laws currently in force in the Kurdistan Region, asserting that no one is above the law.
