Basra: The Basra Criminal Investigation Department, in cooperation with the provincial intelligence directorate, conducted a successful security operation that resulted in the arrest of a foreign national accused of circulating counterfeit currency.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Basra Police Command stated in a statement on Wednesday that precise intelligence was received indicating a foreign national was smuggling counterfeit Iraqi currency from a neighboring country. The suspect intended to defraud citizens and inject these funds into Iraqi markets.
The statement further explained that, based on the available information, a well-planned ambush was set up, which resulted in the suspect’s arrest. Authorities seized 32 million Iraqi dinars in 25,000 dinar denominations from the suspect, and it was determined that the currency was entirely counterfeit. The necessary legal measures were taken against the suspect, and he was referred to the competent authorities.
