Baghdad: The Ministry of Interior announced today, Thursday, the seizure of 64 kilograms of narcotics in cooperation with Iran.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, a Ministry statement indicated that it "continues its intelligence and field efforts at a high pace to pursue drug trafficking gangs inside and outside the country. As part of its proactive security operations, the General Directorate of Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances, under the direct guidance of the Minister of Interior, and after obtaining the necessary approvals, and through effective international security coordination with Iran, seized 64 kilograms of dangerous narcotics and arrested a suspect in the act."

The statement explained that "this high-quality operation was carried out in the city of Abadan by a specialized detachment from the General Directorate of Narcotics Affairs, in close cooperation with the Iranian Anti-Narcotics Administration, as part of joint efforts to combat this transnational scourge."

It emphasized that "joint security operations, based on international agreements and treaties with friendly countries, have proven effective in delivering painful blows to drug networks and preventing the spread of these poisons that target the security and stability of society," reiterating "the Ministry's commitment to continuing this approach to protect citizens and maintain social peace."
