75 Tons of Contaminated Wheat Seized in Diwaniyah

Diwaniyah: The Head of the Integrity Committee in the Diwaniyah Provincial Council, Ahmed Al-Badiri, announced the seizure of 75 tons of spoiled wheat within the province. He noted that the operation was conducted in coordination with the National Security Service and the Financial Control Authority, highlighting that legal measures were implemented according to established procedures.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, there is an agreement with a Canadian company to purchase the contaminated wheat and market it alongside wheat fit for human consumption, or to sell it to private mills for citizens. The wheat, described as carcinogenic, is deemed unfit for human consumption.

Al-Badiri mentioned that the Integrity Committee of the Provincial Council plans to contact the Prime Minister’s office for an investigation, as the materials were discovered in the Ministry of Trade’s warehouses. The Canadian company is reportedly responsible for transporting the wheat from abroad into Iraq.
