Al-Sudani Chairs Meeting to Accelerate Oil Ministry Projects


Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani chaired the periodic meeting on Sunday to follow up on projects in the oil and gas sectors. The meeting was attended by the Minister of Oil, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Planning, a number of advisors, and senior staff from the Ministry of Oil.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, the meeting addressed the development phases of gas projects in the Artawi, Akaz, and Mansouriya fields. The discussions also included the awarding of contracts for the fifth licensing round for the eastern fields of Naft Khana, Khashm al-Ahmar, and the Kamar-Kalabat field. Additionally, they monitored the progress of constructing the fixed platform for liquefied natural gas.



In the oil extraction sector, the meeting reviewed significant projects such as the implementation of the offshore pipeline, the complete management of the Ibn Omar and Sindbad fields, and the completion of the Faw project. The crude oil pipeline connecting the Tuba and Faw fields and the development of the integrated Qayyarah field were also key topics of discussion.



The meeting further addressed the refining and distribution sector, focusing on the status of petroleum product stocks, increasing refinery capacity, and evaluating available refining capacities. Plans for gasoline production, consumption, and supply for 2026 were assessed, alongside strategies for other petroleum products.



The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of capitalizing on the efforts and results achieved, urging continued efforts to fulfill the requirements for the success of these projects. He highlighted these initiatives as a fundamental shift towards achieving self-sufficiency in petroleum products, transitioning to exports, and expanding revenues.
