Damascus: The Syrian government announced Saturday evening a 15-day extension of the ceasefire agreement with Kurdish forces to allow for the completion of the US operation to transfer ISIS prisoners to Iraq. The Syrian Ministry of Defense stated that the ceasefire extension would be effective from 11:00 PM local time (8:00 PM GMT).
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Syrian Ministry of Defense confirmed that the extension supports the US operation to evacuate ISIS prisoners from Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) prisons to Iraq. This move is seen as a coordination effort between the Syrian government and the US to manage the handling of ISIS detainees.
The ceasefire, which involves the Syrian Arab Army and the Kurdish forces, aims to maintain stability in the region while the transfer operation is underway. The decision reflects ongoing cooperation to address the complexities arising from the detention of ISIS members in the region.
