Baghdad: The Coordination Framework is set to convene this evening to deliberate on the candidacy issues for Iraq’s presidency and prime ministership. This meeting comes in the wake of a recent visit by its delegation to the Kurdistan Region, specifically to Erbil and Sulaimaniyah.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the delegation, led by Mohammed Shia al-Sudani and comprising key figures such as Hadi al-Amiri of the Badr Organization, Mohsen al-Mandalawi of the Iraqi Foundation Alliance, and Abbas Radhi, the Secretary-General of the Coordination Framework, engaged in discussions with prominent Kurdish leaders. In Erbil, they met with Masoud Barzani, the leader of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, while in Sulaimaniyah, they held talks with Bafel Talabani, head of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan. The discussions centered on the contentious issue of leadership candidates in Iraq.
The Kurdish political factions, the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan and the Kurdistan Democratic Party, remain divided over the presidential nomination. The Democratic Party has put forward Fuad Hussein as its candidate, while the Patriotic Union supports Nizar Amidi for the presidency.
