Baghdad: The Association of Iraqi Scholars has condemned recent actions by some Kuwaitis that it perceives as transgressions against Iraq and its national symbols. The organization emphasized its strong opposition to any actions that it believes infringe upon Iraq’s sovereignty or its standing in the international community.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the scholars’ media office released a statement expressing disapproval of what it described as mockery of Iraqi scholars’ names and the denigration of its national figures by certain individuals in Kuwait. The statement underscored the belief that issues between nations should be addressed through legal frameworks and international agreements, rather than impulsive or thoughtless comments. It was further emphasized that Iraq is a sovereign state committed to respecting international law and maintaining good relations with its neighbors, while also safeguarding its own rights.
The statement also highlighted the sacrifices made by the Iraqi people for the sake of democracy, asserting that Iraq’s maritime rights are unquestionable and non-negotiable. It called for mutual respect among neighboring countries, stressing that while Iraq respects its neighbors and treats them well, it firmly rejects any attempt to belittle the nation, its people, or its sovereignty. The statement concluded with a call to speak out against injustice, likening silence in the face of such actions to complicity.
