Baghdad: The Parliamentary Finance Committee discussed the draft Federal General Budget Law for the 2027 fiscal year on Sunday.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the meeting was chaired by Deputy Speaker of Parliament Farhad Amin Atrushi and included the participation of the committee chairman and its members. The committee’s agenda featured a review of the draft budget law, following a recommendation by the Ministerial Council for the Economy.
During the meeting, the Deputy Speaker welcomed the Minister of Labor and Social Affairs from the Kurdistan Region and his delegation. He emphasized the importance of reviewing the budget provisions thoroughly before voting, particularly regarding the reallocation of funds for the Social Protection Network to improve living conditions for disadvantaged families.
The committee was informed about the work of the Kurdistan Region’s Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, noting that around 30,000 families have special needs. It was stressed that adequate funding should be allocated to the region’s Social Protection Network to support a decent living standard for these families.
Further discussions involved various issues, including a letter addressed to the Prime Minister’s Office about the draft budget law’s requirements before approval. The committee members voted to endorse the letter and also reviewed the financial situation and recent developments related to the draft budget law, incorporating feedback from the members.
Additionally, the committee approved letters requesting documents and information from the Ministries of Finance, Planning, and Oil, as well as the Central Bank of Iraq.
