Over $170,000 Seized in Smuggling At Trebil Border Crossing

Trebil: The Border Ports Authority announced today the seizure of over $170,000 intended for smuggling at the Trebil border crossing.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Authority Spokesman Alaa al-Qaisi stated that the seizure was made possible through information received from the Intelligence Service and in collaboration with the Customs Center. The Trebil Border Crossing Directorate intercepted an attempt to smuggle $179,000, which was hidden inside a four-wheel drive vehicle. The vehicle was driven by an Iraqi driver who had not declared the cash, violating the Central Bank of Iraq’s regulations.

The driver, along with the vehicle and seized currency, has been referred to the Trebil Customs Center. The case will be presented to the investigating judge to initiate legal proceedings against the driver.
