Foreign Minister Discusses War Developments and Their Impact on Iraq and the Region with His Estonian Counterpart

Baghdad: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein discussed the developments of the war and its impact on Iraq and the region with Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna. A statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated that Hussein received a phone call today, Monday, from the Estonian Foreign Minister, during which they discussed the developments of the war and its impact on Iraq and the region.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Foreign Minister expressed his gratitude to his Estonian counterpart for the communication, outlining the Iraqi perspective on the course of the war, and emphasizing that its continuation achieves no tangible objectives, but rather contributes to deepening the armed chaos in the region and escalating tensions.

He explained that Iraq is not a party to the war, but its geographical location makes it directly affected by its repercussions and the associated military operations. He pointed out that the country has become one of the victims of the conflict, noting that Iran continues to bomb various areas in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, particularly the city of Erbil, while the other side in the conflict targets locations in the south and west of the country, exacerbating security challenges.

According to the statement, the Foreign Minister stressed the urgent need to work towards ending the war and declaring a ceasefire. He warned that the continuation of fighting could lead to the conflict widening and drawing in Gulf states, which would have serious regional repercussions.

Hussein also pointed to potential economic risks for Europe, explaining that a large-scale war in the Gulf region could lead to the global market losing significant quantities of oil and gas. This could cause a rise in energy prices and create significant complications for the global economy in general, and the European economy in particular.

During the call, the importance of intensifying international efforts to contain the escalation and prevent the conflict from spreading was emphasized.
