Baghdad: The leader of the Shiite National Movement, Sayyid Muqtada al-Sadr, has publicly declared his support for Prime Minister Ali Falih al-Zaidi in the ongoing battle against corruption in Iraq. During a speech delivered by Sheikh Hussein al-Muhammadawi at Friday prayers in Baghdad, al-Sadr expressed his commitment to reform, emphasizing the importance of unity in this mission.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, al-Sadr stated, "We were and remain advocates of reform. Not even our love for Hussein unites us with the corrupt. You have been and remain with me through thick and thin. Let us continue on our path to support reform and the new reform campaign whose light has begun to shine in our beloved Iraq." His call to action urged Iraqis to rise peacefully in support of the reform movement and to bolster the efforts of Prime Minister al-Zaidi, whom he referred to as a "reform soldier."
Al-Sadr highlighted the importance of supporting al-Zaidi against pressures from corrupt entities attempting to derail his efforts. He acknowledged the significant contributions of various institutions, including the Iraqi judiciary, the Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, and the security forces, in aiding al-Zaidi's campaign.
Moreover, al-Sadr held the corrupt accountable for the safety of reform advocates, stressing the need to protect those striving to restore the nation's dignity. This public endorsement from al-Sadr signals a strong backing for al-Zaidi's administration as it navigates the complex landscape of Iraqi politics and governance challenges.
