Baghdad: The Ministry of Agriculture is in discussions with the Turkish company FEBAT regarding the implementation of Iraq’s first contract farming experiment. The initiative aims to enhance local agricultural production and expand marketing and export opportunities.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, a technical meeting was held, chaired by Dr. Yasser Hassan Saleh Al-Ati, the Director General of the Planning and Follow-up Department at the Ministry of Agriculture. The meeting included representatives from FEBAT, the Assistant Director General of the Department, various specialists, and the Director of the Marketing and Price Control Department. The focus was on the company’s initiative to implement a pilot program for contract farming in Iraq.

The Ministry of Agriculture emphasized in a press release that the initiative seeks to employ modern farming methods to improve agricultural output. Furthermore, the program aims to expand agricultural marketing and export any surplus production, exceeding local market needs, thereby supporting the national economy.

The meeting concluded with discussions on developing a work mechanism under the Ministry’s direct supervision to further boost agricultural cultivation and economic growth in Iraq.
