Baghdad: The Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee confirmed on Thursday that investigations into corruption cases in Kirkuk are ongoing, emphasizing that the campaign has the support of both Parliament and the Prime Minister.

According to Iraqi News Agency, committee member Mazen Gharib stated that Parliament is backing the government's anti-corruption initiative. He highlighted that investigations in Kirkuk Governorate, particularly focusing on suspected corruption in the Traffic Directorate, have broadened to encompass several officers, personnel, and security directors.

Gharib emphasized the national importance of the corruption fight, stating that the campaign is supported by both Parliament and its Speaker. This effort aims to safeguard public funds and shield the country from the detrimental effects of corruption.

He elaborated on the Kirkuk Traffic Directorate case, which initiated following information submitted to the Integrity Commission office in the province about manipulation, forgery, and corruption. Initially, the arrest of an intermediary led to confessions that implicated numerous officers and personnel within the directorate.

The investigations have resulted in the arrest of several individuals. During interrogations, their statements facilitated the arrest of additional officers. Gharib confirmed that the case file has reached the Prime Minister, with several officers being summoned and detained for further investigation.
