Basra Police Thwart Smuggling Attempt of Three Containers at Umm Qasr North Port

Basra: Basra police successfully intercepted an attempt to smuggle three containers at the Umm Qasr North Port and apprehended the individuals involved.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Basra Governorate Police Media Office announced in a press release that police units discovered and prevented the smuggling of three containers from the port. This action followed reports that the containers had been removed without adhering to proper customs procedures.

The press release detailed that initial assessments indicated the containers were supposed to contain sunflower seeds. However, investigations revealed the actual contents were out-of-model vehicles. The police seized the containers and arrested several suspects connected to the operation.

The statement further noted that the investigating judge has ordered the detention of the accused under Article (194) of the Customs Law. Legal proceedings are underway against the remaining individuals involved, with the case being referred to the competent authorities for further action in accordance with existing legal frameworks.
