Baghdad: Apple has taken a significant step into the Iraqi market by receiving official accreditation from the Media and Communications Commission to operate as a verified digital platform in the country. This development marks Apple's formal entry into Iraq's digital landscape, allowing it to provide its services within a regulated framework.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the accreditation process involved Apple fulfilling all technical and legal requirements as stipulated by the Media and Communications Commission. Baligh Abu Kalal, head of the Commission's executive body, stated that this recognition designates Apple as a trusted digital service provider, enabling the operation of its services such as the App Store, Apple Music, Apple Podcasts, Apple Arcade, and Apple Ads. The accreditation assures these services comply with Iraqi laws and regulations.
Abu Kalal emphasized that accrediting global digital platforms is part of a strategic initiative to align international companies' services with Iraqi legislation. This initiative aims to protect user rights, bolster the digital economy, and enhance the investment environment in the information technology sector. The Commission is committed to collaborating with major international companies and platforms to finalize licensing and accreditation procedures. This effort is expected to expand the scope of digital services, streamline electronic payment processes, and fortify Iraq's presence in the global digital economy.
The accreditation signifies Iraq's dedication to constructing a digital environment founded on legal governance, effective governance, and collaboration with national institutions. This move is designed to benefit citizens and aid in Iraq's digital transformation.
