Basra: The Basra Criminal Court issued a death sentence against a man convicted of murdering a major working in the Basra Anti-Crime Directorate.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the court stated: "The convicted man murdered the victim, Hussein Asaad Abu Risha, with the intent to disrupt security and achieve terrorist objectives."

The statement added: "The sentence was issued against him based on the provisions of Article 4/1, in conjunction with Article 2/1 and 3 of the Anti-Terrorism Law No. 13 of 2005."
