Masrour Barzani Urges Federal Government Cooperation on Sinjar Agreement

Erbil: Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister Masrour Barzani has called upon the federal government to collaborate in implementing the Sinjar Agreement and normalizing the situation in the region, aiming to ensure a dignified return of residents to their homes.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Barzani made this appeal during a speech commemorating the twelfth anniversary of the Yazidi genocide and the Sinjar massacre. He expressed gratitude towards international coalition forces, non-governmental organizations, and countries that have supported the displaced Yazidi community. Despite these efforts, Barzani lamented that over 20,000 Yazidi families continue to live in displacement camps.

Barzani also extended thanks to federal government authorities for their role in uncovering mass graves and coordinating with the Kurdistan Regional Government to return the remains of victims to their hometowns. He stressed the necessity for ongoing federal cooperation to fully implement the Sinjar Agreement, which is vital for restoring security and administrative control to local residents and ensuring compensation for past injustices.

The Prime Minister highlighted the importance of sustained joint efforts to rebuild Sinjar and its surrounding areas, emphasizing that normalization and reconstruction are crucial for the community's future stability and peace.
