Baghdad: Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi affirmed on Tuesday the continuation of addressing the challenges facing the Iraqi scene, with a primary focus on fighting corruption and drying up its sources. A statement from the Prime Minister’s Media Office revealed details of a meeting between al-Zaidi and the head of the ‘Victorious’ parliamentary bloc, MP Faleh Hassan al-Khazali, along with members of the bloc.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the meeting addressed several files and issues related to the service, living, economic, and environmental conditions of citizens, as well as a number of national issues. The Prime Minister emphasized that the government has developed an economic vision centered on activating development sectors and preparing a program and performance budget. He highlighted ongoing efforts to combat corruption and strengthen institutional work.

The Prime Minister further explained the government’s strategy to invest oil wealth more effectively by increasing production rates and developing energy-related industries. This approach aims to gradually shift away from a rentier economy reliant on oil. He mentioned that the establishment of the Energy City would contribute to job creation and attract local and foreign investments.

Al-Zaidi urged members of Parliament to support the government’s efforts by adopting a program and performance-based budget. This would facilitate fundamental changes in Iraq’s economic landscape, enhance spending efficiency, and link resources to developmental results.

In response, Faleh al-Khazali emphasized the importance of cooperation between the legislative and executive branches, expressing the bloc’s support for the government’s policies in combating corruption and promoting reforms. Al-Khazali noted the bloc’s ongoing oversight and legislative role in supporting the reform process, particularly concerning foreign labor regulation and corruption cases.

Members of Parliament attending the meeting expressed their readiness to collaborate with the government in implementing economic and developmental programs aimed at improving services and living conditions. They stressed the importance of integrated efforts between the legislative and executive branches to address the challenges facing the country.
