Minister of Agriculture Discusses Joint Cooperation with World Food Programme


Baghdad: The Minister of Agriculture, Abdul Rahim Al-Shammari, recently welcomed the Country Director/Representative of the World Food Programme (WFP), Ms. Sheila Matthew, along with her delegation, to discuss frameworks for joint cooperation across various governorates. The meeting aimed to enhance agricultural collaboration, which is seen as a crucial factor in improving the economic situation without being hindered by regional conditions.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, Minister Al-Shammari expressed the Ministry’s readiness to advance agricultural cooperation. He also referred to a prior meeting with the WFP Director-General in Rome, where they explored new prospects to create effective opportunities for collaboration.



The WFP delegation emphasized their commitment to the partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture, highlighting their presence in Baghdad despite regional developments. They noted that their participation in the upcoming Agricultural Week marks an important step in strengthening joint cooperation. The delegation also discussed the “Leading Together” program, which is focused on developing agricultural projects and empowering rural women and agricultural initiatives.



Discussions also covered opportunities in various agricultural sectors in provinces such as Anbar and Karbala, with an agreement to continue efforts to improve agricultural practices in these areas.
