Basra: A drug dealer was apprehended alongside four other suspects following a shooting incident with a security detachment in Basra. The suspect initially escaped after opening fire on a patrol from the Basra Directorate of Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Control, injuring the patrol commander.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Basra Governorate Police Command reported that the joint security force, operating under the Safwan Police Department, managed to corner the suspect at his residence in the Umm Qasr district. Despite being surrounded, the suspect fired at the patrol and managed to flee the scene. However, subsequent investigations and follow-up operations led to his arrest later that night, along with four additional suspects.
During the arrest, authorities confiscated 150 grams of narcotics, an electronic scale, two pipes for drug use, a sum of money, counterfeit US dollars, and the weapon used in the crime. The statement from the police indicated that legal proceedings are underway against the suspects, who have been referred to the judiciary for further action.
