Basra: A drug dealer who fled after opening fire on a security detachment in Basra has been arrested along with four other suspects. A joint security force apprehended the individual, who had earlier shot at a patrol from the Basra Directorate of Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Control, injuring the patrol commander.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Basra Governorate Police Command reported that the suspect was cornered at his residence in the Umm Qasr district by a force from the Safwan Police Department. Despite the suspect’s attempt to escape by opening fire, he was captured later that night. The subsequent investigations also led to the arrest of four additional suspects.

Authorities confiscated 150 grams of narcotics, an electronic scale, drug paraphernalia, a sum of money, counterfeit US dollars, and the weapon used in the crime. Legal proceedings are underway against the suspects, who have been referred to the judiciary.
