Dr. Aqeel Fadhil Hamad Takes Over as Acting President of University of Basra

Basra: Dr. Aqeel Fadhil Hamad has assumed his duties as the acting president of the University of Basra, following a ministerial order from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. This order grants him the necessary powers to manage the affairs of the university effectively.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the decision to appoint Dr. Hamad comes as part of efforts to maintain the continuity of academic and administrative work at the University of Basra. The university’s media office emphasized that this move aims to enhance the university’s progress and contribute to improving its performance in achieving scientific and educational objectives.

The recent appointment follows the suspension of the former president, Dr. Muhannad Jawad Kadhim, for a period of 60 days. The ministry deemed his continued presence as detrimental to public service. Dr. Aqeel Fadhil Hamad Ali, who was serving as the Dean of the College of Law at the University of Basra, has been entrusted with the responsibilities of the university’s presidency to ensure smooth operations during this transitional period.
