Baghdad: PM Ali al-Zaidi met on Wednesday with the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, to discuss prospects for cooperation and joint action, emphasizing the deep-rooted relations between Iraq and Iran as well as the strong ties and shared values that bind the two countries. During the meeting, they explored ways to enhance bilateral relations in various fields, aiming to serve the common interests of the two neighboring nations and their peoples, according to a statement from the PM Media Office, received by Iraqi News Agency – INA.
According to Iraqi News Agency, the Prime Minister affirmed “the depth of relations between Iraq and Iran, and the historical, geographical, and religious ties that bind the two countries,” while praising “Iran’s supportive stances towards Iraq, particularly the support provided by the Islamic Republic of Iran during its war against Daesh terrorist gangs.”
In turn, the Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly of the Islamic Republic of Iran expressed his contentment at visiting Iraq, appreciating the efforts of the Iraqi government in receiving and serving Iranian visitors during the Arbaeen pilgrimage of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him).
