Baghdad: Deputy Speaker of the Council of Representatives Farhad Atroshi on Wednesday called for sustainable solutions to the issue of internally displaced persons (IDPs) that would ensure them a dignified and safe life.
According to Iraqi News Agency, Atroshi emphasized the need to honor workers in civil society organizations, volunteers, relief teams, and supporting bodies in recognition of their humanitarian role. On World Humanitarian Day, observed annually on August 19, he acknowledged their continued efforts to protect society and stand in solidarity with those affected by disasters and crises.
Atroshi praised the exceptional efforts of the Kurdistan Regional Government of Iraq, highlighting their response to crises and disasters. He noted their significant role in accommodating hundreds of thousands of displaced people and refugees, providing essential assistance and services in collaboration with the federal government and international and local organizations.
He urged for the continued provision of international support and stronger coordination between Baghdad and Erbil. Atroshi stressed the importance of finding sustainable solutions to the issue of displaced people, ensuring a dignified and safe life for their families, and creating appropriate conditions for their return to their areas of origin.
