Baghdad: The National Security Council convened its eleventh session on Wednesday, led by National Security Advisor Qasim al-Aboudi, to deliberate on the execution of the National Drug Control Strategy.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Council, alongside the Director of the Anti-Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Department from the Ministry of Interior, the Mental Health Advisor from the Ministry of Health, and representatives from key security agencies such as the National Security Service, the National Intelligence Service, and the Border Ports Authority, evaluated the agenda topics and formulated essential decisions and recommendations.
The session focused on the enactment of the National Strategy for Combating Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances, assessing the actions taken by relevant agencies to combat these issues. The discussions also aimed at enhancing the anti-narcotics sector and tackling the challenges faced at both national and international levels.
During the meeting, Al-Aboudi underscored the significance of adhering to the directives of Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi concerning drug combat efforts, stressing the high priority of this issue for the Iraqi government. He highlighted the necessity of unified efforts from all state institutions to protect Iraqi youth from the threat of narcotics, urging the development of innovative strategies to address the drug menace that endangers society.
The National Security Advisor also acknowledged the contributions of security agencies in curbing the proliferation of drugs, recognizing their role in addressing this critical issue.
