Integrity Commission Arrests Suspect for Impersonating a Crime Prevention Officer in Maysan

Maysan: The Federal Integrity Commission announced the arrest of an individual impersonating an officer in the Ministry of Interior in Maysan Governorate, stating that he had committed acts of extortion and bribery.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Commission explained that the arrest, which was carried out under a judicial warrant, involved a field team from the Maysan Investigation Office. The team had been monitoring a person who was impersonating an officer in the governorate’s Criminal Investigation Department. The suspect had attempted to extort money from a citizen by claiming to have incriminating information about the citizen’s involvement in currency counterfeiting and falsely asserting that an arrest warrant had been issued. He demanded 15,000,000 Iraqi dinars to destroy the alleged investigative documents in his possession.

The Commission revealed that the team executed a well-planned ambush, leading to the apprehension of the accused as he was receiving part of the bribe he had requested. A formal arrest report was prepared and presented, and the accused was brought before the judge of the specialized integrity court in Maysan. The judge ordered his detention based on the provisions of Resolution (160 of 1983), as amended.
