Al-Aboudi Meets EU Ambassador, Reaffirms Iraq’s Stance Against Armed Groups


Baghdad: National Security Advisor Qasim al-Aboudi reiterated Iraq’s constitutional stance against armed groups that threaten regional security during a meeting with European Union Ambassador Clemens Zimetner and EU member state representatives.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, the meeting focused on enhancing the bonds of friendship and cooperation between Iraq and the European Union, emphasizing the mutual partnership that aligns with Iraq’s best interests. Al-Aboudi highlighted the Iraqi government’s commitment to international openness, as outlined in the government program led by Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi. This program aims to foster close and balanced relations with neighboring and friendly nations, diversify the economy, and attract foreign investment to benefit Iraqi citizens.



Al-Aboudi also emphasized the Iraqi government’s dedication to enforcing security measures that restrict weapons to state control and strengthen security agreements with allied countries. These efforts are part of a broader strategy to create a stable environment conducive to economic reform and international investment in Iraq. He reiterated that the Iraqi constitution prohibits the presence of armed groups that pose a threat to regional security.



EU Ambassador Zimetner expressed the European Union’s commitment to supporting Iraq in implementing its ministerial program, which aligns with the reform vision of al-Zaidi’s government. He highlighted the strong historical ties between EU countries and Iraq, emphasizing the value and importance of this relationship.
