Al-Fayyad Denies PMF as Iraqi Version of Iranian Revolutionary Guard, Predicts Peace Post-September 30th

Baghdad: The head of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), Faleh al-Fayyad, has declared that the PMF should not be equated to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard. He emphasized the distinct identity and role of the PMF, stating that there will be no fighting in Iraq beyond September 30th.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, al-Fayyad delineated the PMF as an indigenous Iraqi entity with a unique role and significance for Iraqis. He clarified that despite some overlaps, the PMF is distinct from other armed factions, which operate independently with distinct structures and objectives. Al-Fayyad highlighted that the PMF is a structured military force, executing orders from its commander-in-chief and supporting the state’s stability and political diversity.

Al-Fayyad remarked on the PMF’s position during the America-Iran conflict, noting its non-involvement despite being significantly impacted. He conveyed the importance of transitioning to a new phase following the withdrawal of foreign forces, one that emphasizes dialogue over threats.

He addressed the issue of weapon control, stating that visible weapons will not be accepted post-September 30th, while cautioning against forceful disarmament due to potential chaos. Al-Fayyad reiterated that there will be no internal fighting among Iraqis after this date, advocating for calm and rationality to guide the nation through this transitional period. He called upon armed factions to responsibly support the state’s exclusive control over arms.
