Baghdad: Emphasizing the depth of relations, Al-Zaydi praised Iran’s supportive stance towards Iraq during its war against ISIS. Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi expressed his appreciation for the support extended by Iran in combating ISIS terrorist gangs, highlighting the significant role Iran played during this critical period.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Prime Minister’s Media Office revealed that Al-Zaidi engaged in discussions with Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly of Iran, and his delegation. The meeting focused on exploring avenues for cooperation and joint initiatives aimed at enhancing bilateral relations across various sectors, aligning with the mutual interests of both nations.
Al-Zaidi underscored the profound historical, geographical, and religious ties that connect Iraq and Iran. He praised Iran’s supportive actions towards Iraq, especially during the conflict with ISIS. These actions, he noted, exemplified the strength of the bilateral relationship.
In response, the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament expressed satisfaction with his visit to Iraq and acknowledged the Iraqi government’s efforts in facilitating the Arba’een pilgrimage for Iranian pilgrims. He reiterated Iran’s commitment to further developing ties and expanding collaborative efforts, ensuring that the shared interests of both countries and their peoples are prioritized.
