Iran Identifies Potential Military Targets in Europe Amid Rising Tensions with Washington

Tehran: The Financial Times has reported that Iran is considering expanding its military confrontation with Washington beyond the Middle East, targeting U.S. military sites located in southeastern Europe.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the sources revealed that Iranian forces have discussed the possibility of targeting U.S. military assets in southeastern European countries, including Bulgaria. Last month, Bulgaria agreed to allow U.S. aircraft to use the Bezmir airbase for refueling purposes.

Additionally, two informed sources indicated that Cyprus, which hosts a British airbase that suffered a drone attack last March, is also among the potential targets for Iran’s retaliation should the United States initiate a new attack. These discussions underscore Tehran’s strategic calculations in response to perceived threats from Washington.

Moreover, Iranian forces have explored the possibility of disrupting fiber optic cables running under the Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for global oil shipments, in the event of escalating conflict. Such actions could have significant implications for international communications and the global economy.

The newspaper concluded that these developments reflect an increasingly hardline atmosphere in Tehran, where many within the regime view the resumption of war as an imminent reality rather than a distant possibility.
