Cairo: Egypt and the Sultanate of Oman called on Saturday for prioritizing political and diplomatic solutions and intensifying efforts to contain tensions and prevent further escalation in the region, in order to preserve its security and stability.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty received a phone call from his Omani counterpart, Badr bin Hamad, during which they emphasized the need to continue close consultations and coordination in the coming period and to intensify efforts aimed at containing tensions and preventing further escalation in the region. They stressed the importance of prioritizing political and diplomatic solutions to preserve the region’s security and stability.
The two ministers discussed in detail the ongoing developments in the region, particularly those related to freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. Abdel-Aty emphasized the importance of restoring normal navigation and ensuring the safety, security, and freedom of passage through the strait. He also pointed to the repercussions of navigation in the strait on the global economy, energy security, supply chains, and international trade.
The Egyptian minister also stressed the importance of building on ongoing diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions and create conditions for a return to the memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran. He called for the resumption of negotiations between Tehran and Washington to reach a “comprehensive and sustainable settlement that enhances security and stability in the region,” according to the statement.
The call also addressed bilateral relations between Egypt and the Sultanate of Oman and ways to develop them in various fields, in addition to an exchange of views on issues of common interest.
