Munich: Bayern Munich kicked off the 2026-2027 season by winning the German Super Cup, confirming their superiority over arch-rivals Borussia Dortmund with a 2-1 victory, before the start of their Bundesliga title defense.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the team, coached by Belgian Vincent Kompany, secured their second consecutive title in the competition and a record twelfth overall, six titles ahead of second-placed Dortmund, whose last title dates back to 2019. Bayern sealed the victory in the first half, taking a 2-0 lead through goals from new signing Nathaniel Brown and the talented Frenchman Michael Ulisey.

Portuguese substitute Fabio Silva managed to pull one back for Borussia Dortmund after a well-coordinated attack and a decisive pass from Swede Daniel Svensson, which found the left foot of the former Wolverhampton Wanderers striker, who slotted the ball into the net in the 75th minute.

The reigning league and cup champions begin their Bundesliga campaign on Friday at their home ground, the Allianz Arena, against Stuttgart. The Bavarian giants have lost only once to Dortmund in their last 17 encounters across all competitions, winning 13 of those matches.

Since winning the Super Cup in 2019, Dortmund have faced their rivals Bayern three times in this competition without securing a victory. Dortmund also finished as runners-up to Bayern in the league last season, but by a significant margin of 16 points.
