Frenchwoman Diane Parry Wins Monterrey Open Tennis Tournament in Mexico


Monterrey: France’s Diane Parry won the Monterrey Open 500-point tennis title after defeating Belgium’s Elise Mertens, the tournament’s second seed and world number 24, 6-4, 0-6, 6-3 in the final match held on Sunday. Parry, ranked 50th in the world, secured her first WTA title after a match lasting two hours and 31 minutes, achieving the most significant accomplishment of her career so far.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, the French player reached the final after defeating American Ann Li, the fifth seed, in the semi-finals, while Mertens qualified for the final after overcoming Czech Nicola Bartonkova. Parry will face Switzerland’s Viktorija Golubic in the US Open on Monday.
