Tehran: Communications Minister Mustafa Sanad confirmed on Monday that there are common understandings and an existing relationship with the Iranian side in the field of communications, noting that the volume of international communications with Iran is very high and ranks first compared to the rest of the world, while he indicated that Iraq’s interest requires it to move towards technology and to cooperate with all neighboring countries.

According to Iraqi News Agency, during a joint press conference held with his Iranian counterpart, Sattar Hashemi, in the capital, Tehran, Sanad emphasized Iran’s capabilities in cybersecurity, particularly its reliance on secure applications that are less vulnerable to breaches. He noted that Iraq has several memoranda of understanding with Iran dating back to 2011 and 2012, as well as a recent one in 2024, covering various sectors including postal and cybersecurity.

Sanad further explained that advanced and useful technology should be utilized with precautions, stressing that the focus is on technology rather than specific countries. He highlighted Iraq’s contracts with international companies in cybersecurity, while acknowledging Iran’s secure local applications that are beneficial for Iraq.

Emphasizing the high volume of international communications between Iraq and Iran, Sanad stated that Iraq’s interest lies in advancing technology and fostering cooperation with neighboring countries. He mentioned established connections with Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and other regional countries.

Iranian Minister of Communications Sattar Hashemi reaffirmed the commitment to developing new strategies for cooperation and coordination with Iraq. He expressed gratitude towards Minister Mustafa Sanad, the Iraqi delegation, and the Iraqi people for their role in maintaining strong bilateral relations.
