The prime minister’s advisor: ‘The current government took over the situation in light of a major external crisis due to the Hormuz War or the geopolitical situation in Hormuz, and Iraq has moved from the stage of repelling the crisis to the stage of coexisting with it and containing it.’
According to Iraqi News Agency, Saleh stated that the government’s strategy involves addressing the challenges posed by the crisis through the development of pipelines and alternative sources. This shift is aimed at steering Iraq’s oil policy and marketing initiatives towards regions less affected by geopolitical tensions.
Saleh highlighted that should the crisis in the Strait persist, Iraq would need to explore exporting oil through neighboring regions. He emphasized that managing these new oil strongholds would require a different political approach compared to previous strategies.
He further elaborated on Iraq’s efforts to secure the 3.4 million barrels that were previously exported, with 80 percent to 85 percent having been routed through Hormuz. The goal is to ensure these exports continue through alternative routes in neighboring regions.
