Baghdad: The National Center for International Judicial (NCIJC) Cooperation announced on Tuesday that international judicial cooperation and information exchange between Iraq and the Public Prosecution Authority of the Republic of Slovenia contributed to the prosecution of a member of the ISIS terrorist group, resulting in his sentencing to five years in prison under Slovenian law.

According to Iraqi News Agency, NCIJC stated that international judicial cooperation between Iraq and the Public Prosecution Authority of the Republic of Slovenia, through its office at the European Union Agency for Criminal Justice Cooperation (Eurojust), played a crucial role in prosecuting the ISIS member. This cooperation culminated in the individual’s sentencing to five years in prison under Slovenian law.

NCIJC reported that it received a request for legal assistance from the Public Prosecution Authority of the Republic of Slovenia regarding the convicted individual. The Center then initiated search and verification procedu
res in the national database, carefully cross-referencing available information to confirm the details in the request and linking it to relevant data. This process resulted in obtaining information tying the individual to ISIS.

NCIJC affirmed, according to the statement, that it remains committed to continuing its efforts through the national database, judicial cooperation channels, and international partnerships. These efforts aim to support the pursuit of ISIS members and individuals accused of serious, cross-border crimes. The organization emphasized that these actions strengthen counter-terrorism efforts and contribute to achieving justice while upholding the principle of no impunity.
