Baghdad: Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein discussed on Monday in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, the developments in the region, the challenges it faces, and their impact on the security and stability of its countries.

According to Iraqi News Agency, a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that “Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein received the Deputy Foreign Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Walid Al-Khuraiji, at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States in Cairo, on the sidelines of the 166th regular session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the ministerial level.”

“During the meeting, bilateral relations between the Republic of Iraq and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia were discussed, along with ways to enhance joint cooperation in a manner that serves the mutual interests of the two brotherly peoples.”

“The two sides discussed the tensions and challenges facing the region and their impact on the security and stability of its countries, as well as their negative effects on economic conditions, trade, and investment, and the additional challenges they pose to development efforts and regional stability.”

According to the statement, Fuad Hussein pointed to “the magnitude of the challenges facing the region at this stage,” emphasizing that continued tension and escalation do not serve the interests of the region’s peoples and lead to further political, economic, and security repercussions.

The Foreign Minister stressed “the importance of adopting dialogue and diplomacy as a means to address crises and disputes, and of working together to reduce tension and prevent the expansion of conflicts, thereby contributing to strengthening security and stability and achieving the common interests of the region’s peoples.”
