Minister of Justice Emphasizes National Importance of Mass Graves File


Baghdad: Justice Minister Khalid Shawani affirmed his support for national efforts to uncover the fate of victims of mass graves. The Ministry of Justice stated in a press release: “Shawani received the national team specializing in opening mass graves today, Monday. During the meeting, they discussed the operational mechanisms employed in this case and the efforts being made to uncover the fate of the victims and provide justice for their families.”



According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Minister highlighted the responsibility towards the victims and their families, emphasizing the necessity of continuing search operations, opening graves, and exhuming remains to identify the victims and return them to their families. Shawani stressed the importance of unifying efforts, providing support and coordination, and streamlining procedures for the team’s work. These efforts are to be conducted in accordance with established legal and scientific standards to document the crimes and preserve the rights of the victims, thereby strengthening justice and fairness and preserving Iraq’s national memory.
