Turkish Authorities Discover Sunken Ship Tugberk Imamoglu in Sea of Marmara

Istanbul: Turkish authorities announced the discovery of the sunken cargo ship Tugberk Imamoglu in the Sea of Marmara off Istanbul at a depth of 720 meters. The ship sank last Wednesday after colliding with another vessel, with 10 crew members on board.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Turkish authorities confirmed in a press release that search and rescue teams located the Tugberk Imamoglu using a remotely operated vehicle. This technology allowed them to photograph the vessel on the seabed and confirm its position off the coast of Silivri.

Authorities emphasized that while locating the wreckage marks a significant step in the search operations, the mission is far from complete. Efforts will continue to reach the 10 missing crew members inside the ship and determine their fate.

The collision occurred early Wednesday morning between the Tugberk Imamoglu and another cargo ship named ALSU, causing the former to sink immediately. The fate of its 10 Turkish crew members remains unknown.
