Iraq Commits to Strengthening Arab Solidarity and Consensus


Cairo: Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein affirmed on Monday Iraq’s commitment, as the current chair of the Arab Summit, to strengthening Arab solidarity and consensus and unifying positions regarding the challenges facing the region.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated that Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein headed the delegation of the Republic of Iraq participating in the 166th regular session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the ministerial level, held in the Egyptian capital, Cairo. The statement further explained that prior to the meeting, the Foreign Minister participated in the meeting of the Ministerial Committee on Palestine, as well as the consultative meeting of Arab foreign ministers.



The statement highlighted that during the consultative meeting, the Foreign Minister emphasized that the ongoing conflict between Tehran and Washington casts a shadow over the countries of the region and the global economy. He noted the importance of opening channels of dialogue between the concerned parties and reaching peaceful solutions that contribute to avoiding further repercussions and financial and economic crises.



During the meeting of the Ministerial Committee on Palestine, the Minister reiterated Iraq’s clear and unwavering position on the Palestinian cause, which is to support the Palestinian people and their right to self-determination.



According to the statement, in his address to the 166th regular session of the League of Arab States Council, the Foreign Minister reiterated Iraq’s position calling for respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states, and rejecting war and the expansion of conflicts. He stressed the necessity of prioritizing dialogue and political and diplomatic means to de-escalate tensions and achieve security and stability in the region.



Hussein affirmed Iraq’s commitment, as the current chair of the Arab Summit, to strengthening Arab solidarity and consensus and unifying positions regarding the challenges facing the region. This commitment is aimed at contributing to supporting joint Arab action and achieving the interests of Arab states and peoples.
