Cairo: Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein met with Arab officials in Cairo to discuss regional developments, challenges, and their impact on the security and stability of countries in the region.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Fuad Hussein engaged in discussions with the Deputy Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia, Walid Al-Khuraiji, during the 166th regular session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the ministerial level. The meeting focused on the relations between Iraq and Saudi Arabia, exploring opportunities to enhance joint cooperation that benefits both nations. They addressed the tensions and challenges in the region and their adverse effects on economic conditions, trade, and investment, which pose additional challenges to development efforts and regional stability.

Fuad Hussein emphasized the significant challenges facing the region, underscoring that ongoing tension and escalation do not benefit the peoples of the region and lead to further political, economic, and security repercussions. He advocated for dialogue and diplomacy to resolve crises and disputes, aiming to reduce tension and prevent conflict expansion, thereby supporting security and stability in the region.

Additionally, Fuad Hussein met with Yemen’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs, Afrah al-Zuba, discussing bilateral relations and cooperation between Iraq and Yemen. The Yemeni minister provided insights into the political and humanitarian situation in Yemen and efforts towards de-escalation and achieving stability. Fuad Hussein reiterated Iraq’s readiness to support initiatives that foster dialogue and peace in Yemen.

In another meeting, Fuad Hussein and Qatari Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad Al-Muraikhi discussed strengthening relations between Iraq and Qatar. They agreed on arranging a visit by Prime Minister Ali al-Zubaidi to Qatar to enhance bilateral relations and cooperation. The discussions highlighted regional tensions and emphasized the need for dialogue to prevent escalation and achieve peaceful solutions.

Fuad Hussein also engaged with the Deputy Foreign Minister of Kuwait, Hamad Al-Mashaan, focusing on enhancing cooperation between Iraq and Kuwait. The meeting covered regional developments, including tensions between Iran and the United States, and stressed the importance of dialogue to resolve the crisis and prevent potential conflict.

The Foreign Minister highlighted the upcoming Organization of Islamic Cooperation meeting in Iraq, emphasizing coordination among Islamic countries on common issues and challenges, and advocating for diplomatic solutions to regional tensions.
