Cairo: Arab foreign ministers, convening in Cairo, have denounced the ongoing Israeli aggression against Palestine, Lebanon, and Syria, while also rejecting Iranian escalations and attacks targeting several Arab countries. The condemnation came during the 166th session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the ministerial level, held at its headquarters in the Egyptian capital. The meeting was chaired by Tunisia, represented by Foreign Minister Mohamed Nafti, as detailed in a statement from the Egyptian Foreign Ministry.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the meeting focused on regional developments, highlighting the Iranian escalation and attacks on various Arab nations, alongside the persistent Israeli aggressions in Palestine, Lebanon, and Syria. Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty, in his address, firmly condemned the Iranian attacks and underscored Cairo’s objection to any infringement on the sovereignty, security, or territorial integrity of Arab states. He emphasized the importance of avoiding broader conflict and stressed the need to return to diplomatic efforts to alleviate tensions, drawing on the memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran from June.
Egypt’s Foreign Minister also highlighted that the rapid regional developments should not overshadow the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank. He reiterated Egypt’s rejection of displacement, settlement construction, annexation, and the liquidation of the Palestinian cause. Abdel-Aty emphasized ongoing efforts to solidify the ceasefire, implement the Sharm El-Sheikh Agreement, and complete the Road Map, which he affirmed would facilitate the transition to the second phase of US President Donald Trump’s peace plan and the Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip.
Furthermore, he stressed the necessity of ensuring full and sustained access to aid, supporting early recovery and reconstruction, and empowering the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza. This would pave the way for the Palestinian Authority to resume its full responsibilities in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. The meeting also marked the first appearance of the Secretary-General of the Arab League, Nabil Fahmy, at this level since assuming his post.
