Female Passenger Arrested at Basra International Airport for Smuggling 132 Cartons of Cigarettes

Basra: Customs officials at Basra International Airport seized 132 cartons of cigarettes intended for smuggling from a female passenger. According to National Iraqi News Agency, the General Authority of Customs announced the arrest on Wednesday, identifying the passenger in the departure hall with the large quantity of cigarettes meant for smuggling.

The Authority revealed that their personnel discovered the 132 cartons of cigarettes cleverly concealed inside two cartons originally designated for food products. The cigarettes had been emptied and hidden in such a way that made detection challenging.

A formal seizure report was prepared following the confiscation of the goods, and both the passenger and the contraband were handed over to the relevant authorities for legal proceedings in accordance with the law.

The General Authority of Customs reiterated its commitment to enhancing inspection and control measures, emphasizing its dedication to combating smuggling attempts in all forms. This initiative aims to protect public funds and support efforts to strengthen customs control.
